How to lose weight fast with 4 easy actions

Most people would agree that to lose weight fast is not healthy for you, but our bodies are so overstressed with incorrect eating habits and lifestyle choices, that when you change a few simple things – the weight drops off fast.

Would you like to look like the woman on the left? I am going to show you four steps to lose weight fast without ridiculous diets or overdoing the exercise thing (which just causes massive stress to your body if you are relatively inactive).

The best part is that if you continue to do the four things I am going list below on a consistent basis, the weight will stay off. Eventually the weight loss does plateau but your body’s metabolism adjusts to the change and keeps the weight off.

My friend Michael Gers who wrote the book “Fat equals Thin” gave me these four tips and I lost 10kg in three months. That’s a drop in two dress sizes. Do you have any idea how AWESOME that feels?

So here is how I lost weight fast:

1) Stop all sugar

By this I mean all sugar. Stop using sugar in your tea or coffee. “But I hate bitter tea or coffee!” That’s what you are all saying now. So, have honey instead. It still tastes sweet but it is so much healthier for you. The best part is that you can enjoy your coffee and know that you are losing weight.

Cut out those sweets and sugary cold drinks, and don’t even bother with the diet cold drinks. They are trashing your metabolism. Switch to fresh fruit juice or fruit. You still get the sweetness but none of the bad side effects and they are good for your digestive system.

2) Stop drinking milk

Milk has a very high fat content which contributes to your body’s build up of fat. Black tea or coffee is actually very tasty, although I must admit it took me a while to get used to it. After about a week or so, you become so accustomed to the taste that drinking it with milk again actually feels odd. Instead drink lots of water. It flushes out your system and re-hydrates your body.

3) Stop eating crisps

Those potato crisps have got such a high fat level that they are extremely bad for you. My friend “B” works for a company that manufactures crisps and and she told me about the manufacturing process. I was horrified! They are pure oil! It’s just not worth the momentary pleasure of munching those chips. I now munch on raw green beans.

And I can hear the ‘eeeuwwws’ coming from you. They taste great and are even crunchier than crisps but you are burning off fat while you eat them.

4) Go for a walk three times a week

By going for a 20 minute walk just three times a week, you are increasing your metabolism, burning off fat and more importantly you are not over-stressing your body and causing damage.

Besides the physical benefits, there are huge emotional benefits. It releases tension, gives you a break from your daily challenges and frees your mind up for a while. And the best part? You are losing weight fast!

So, how easy is that? No stress, no major exercise, no sacrifice. Just a few simple steps and you will lose weight fast!

The sad truth is that the vast majority of us women do the latter, especially when we are older. We have been beaten and bashed by life and it’s shattered dreams. Somewhere between the mundane day-to-day job of just getting through life and constant worries that seem to increase as we get older, we have lost ourselves.

The regal queen that we always imagined we would become has withered under the reality of life.

It’s time to change that! Over the next few weeks I am going to focus on a series of blog posts that will change the way you look at yourself.

10 steps to deal with a broken heart

There is nothing more gut-wrenching, soul-destroying or shredding-your-heart-into-a-million-pieces than when someone you love rejects you.

When you share the news with your friends, you get the normal clichés; time will heal all, there are other fish in the sea, he’s obviously not the one for you. Blah … blah … blah.

None of these work when your body feels like lead, you have forgotten how to breathe and everything reminds you of him.

The rest of the world carries on around you and all you want to do is hide under your duvet – forever.

But, the children need to be fed, homework has to be done, dinner cooked, washing and ironing done … and the list goes on. As does life.

So here are my coping mechanisms. I cannot promise that they will work for you but they might allow you to forget for a while.

1) Spring clean your house

2) Finish a project that you started ten years ago

3) Take up that hobby that you always wanted to do but never got around to it.

4) Learn a new skill or become an expert in a field that interests you

5) Spend lots of time with your girlfriends and do girly things

6) Join a club or an organisation with interests similar to your own and actually go to the functions

7) Go bungee-jumping, do a fire-walk or something equally scary that will certainly take your mind off him.

8) Redecorate your house

9) Remind yourself that you are worthy of love, even though you may not feel it right now

10) Go on a date – with someone else

I hope that this may help some of you. If you have any other ideas how to cope with a broken heart I would love to hear them.

Internet Dating … Eek!?!?

Last night I was feeling really frustrated at my complete lack of a social life. With three kids, a full time job, housework, cooking and washing, there really is not a lot of time for me. How am I supposed to meet someone new who will instantly recognise how perfect I am for him and sweep me off my feet and into his life?

Yes, I know! Keep dreaming Diana. Well, I am an eternal optimist so here I go again. I decided to try out an Internet Dating service that is constantly advertised on Facebook for the more ‘mature’ folk.

I fill out the survey in detail, making sure my answers are truthful. I was clear about my likes and dislikes. I even uploaded a photograph (gasp)! I hate photographs of myself but I figured I had nothing to lose.

This morning there were ten, yes ten emails from the dating site. My ego was seriously boosted. Wow! I am popular! That is an unfamiliar feeling.

So off I rush to see my dream men waiting for me. They look really interesting but I noticed something odd. Most of the emails said exactly the same thing. Hold on a minute. They can’t all say the same thing and then I twigged on. The dating service automatically sent me emails from the various gentlemen based on our compatibility score. These poor guys did not even know that they emailed me. So I went to my ‘sent’ items. An even bigger gasp. Apparently I (the shameless hussy) had sent emails to a whole lot of men too.

The Dating Service probably does that because it knows most people are too shy to initiate contact. I mean; Internet Dating is a little ‘desperate’ in some people’s eyes.

However I was ok with that. I understand why they did it BUT here comes the real cruncher. I got a really nice reply from one guy and it was long and chatty. Just the kind of email us girls like. He left his Facebook profile name and email address on the message and asked me to reply. So I did from my work address. In his reply he asked to me to find him on Facebook and be’friend’ him which I duly did.

While I was waiting for the Friend request to be approved, I browsed his profile. Fabulous guy! Educated, successful, loves his kids, loves the outdoor life etc etc. Exactly the kind of man I would be looking for. Then I noticed something else really interesting. I checked his profile out on Facebook and it was an EXACT replica of the email he sent me. Copy and paste? That was strike one!

He had a lot of friends, about 250 in total, BUT there was not one man on that list. Clang! Clang! Clang! That’s the sound of alarm bells going off in my head. This man is building a little Facebook harem there. Strike two!

CANCEL!!!!! That’s me cancelling the Friendship request and instantly off to the dating site to delete my profile – permanently!

So that little adventure lasted all of 18 hours, but at least I had a good story to tell.

It’s been a long time, I know but this has been one of those months where I spent most of it at hospitals and sick-beds. Long story but three of my family ended up either in hospital with an emergency appedicitus opereration, or diagnosed with emphasima and diabetes or in the case of my mom, who suffered a heart attack. Fortunately all is relatively well now so we move on.

When you are hurting

During the last few weeks I have witnessed several on-line friends get wounded by blatant arrogance and nastiness from other people, especially women, on the internet.

In the case of Friend A, a particularly virulent dose of poison was left on a comment that attacked her family values, her lifestyle choices and her decision to share details of her life on her blog.

A statement made by this scorpion had me gaping. She said that since no one else would say it, it was up to her to do it. She went on to say things that would have shattered your soul if it had been addressed to you. It made me sick to my stomach that someone could be so vicious with another person’s feelings and dreams.

Of course, my very smart friend moderates her comments so that piece of filth never saw the light of day on the internet, but the damage was done.

Who does this person think they are? What right do they have to attack someone they have never met in real life with such hatred? Was it because she is successful and is popular with everyone she interacts with?

If she did not like what Friend A had to say on her blog, there was always the little red x in the top right hand corner. No one was pinning her arm behind her back and forcing her to read that blog.

I started to think about this scorpion and remembered something I had read a while back. I forget where I read it, but it goes like this: “Hurting people hurt!”. This may not make sense right now but read it again. When you are hurting, it is so easy to lash out at someone else because it makes you feel better about yourself and your situation.

Or does it?

The damage to yourself when you crush someone else is subtle but insidious. It permeates your soul, slowly hardening your heart until there is no heart beat. No joy. No laughter. No life.

Why would you want to do that to yourself?

Words have the power to destroy a person’s sense of well being, and shatter their hopes and dreams. The problem is that words are freely available on the internet. Every computer-literate Tom, Dick and Harry, and their sisters have a blog where they share their lives or thoughts.

Be gentle with them. They are real people, not just a user name.

Here’s the bit that left me shattered. This so called “it’s up to me” scorpion never left her name. It was an anonymous comment. No link back to her website or blog, no initials, just a text box filled with cowardly poison.

My advice to Friend A was to “Forgive them, pray for them, forget them and move on.” There are thousands of wonderful people connecting on the internet. The few scorpions will eventually crawl back under their rocks.

The question is: Are you one of them or are you changing people’s lives for the better with your words?

Soccer World Cup Fever is here

The South Africans went absolutely berserk yesterday with the one-all draw with Mexico. The Mexicans are ranked in the top 20 and South Africa is ranked in the 80’s. We did OKAY!!!!!!

I have to admit though that I am glad I was not actually at the match. The noise from those vuvuzelas would have driven me crazy, not to mention given me a massive migraine but these are exciting times. I don’t even like soccer but the fever has taken hold.

DSO CU Grab Bag, a reveal and layouts

The DSO girls have put together a commercial use Grab Bag for you. The contributing designers were myself, Kim, Bunny, Lou, Gaye and Lynn.

That is $6.00 for 6 fabulous products. It will only be available until the end of May and then it gets broken up.

Remember if you purchase this months DSO CU COLLAB GRAB BAG you will really be supporting DSO as all the proceeds are going into software upgrades which DSO needs.

Here is my portion of the grab bag. It contains 9 png shapes and brushes and has been tested with PSE2 and PSE5. These shapes were all created by myself in Inkscape.

Marvellous Monday

Do you get the Monday morning blues? Sometimes I do. I wake up at 5.30 am and my heart sinks. Not another week?

I looked around the house this morning and realised that my life consists of repetition. Washing dishes, mopping floors, hauling the bedding off the beds, getting the washing machine going, hanging up the washing, ironing the Everest of clothing, taking food out of the freezer so that the kids can eat tonight and that’s just the housework. It does not include the list of things I have to do to bring in the money.

There are two things I can do about it this morning. I can either go on strike – refuse to do anything that I do not want to do and just self-indulge or I can put my head down and just tick off the list, one tick at a time.

I asked myself this question: At 1.30pm this afternoon when the frenetic taxi run starts again, which one will make me feel better? I realised that although I hated the thought of having to do what needed to be done, I would be even worse off if I did not do it. The guilt and pressure of knowing that it still had to be done would probably make me grumpy.

So I wrote out the to-do list. Here it is in all it’s mundane glory:

1) Blog about Nikki and new grab bag

2) Do the washing

3) Wash the dishes

4) Complete bank recon for SP

5) Take meat and milk out of freezer for dinner

6) Complete raw data research for DZ

7) Complete 3 pages of book

8) Complete mini-kit for Kim’s colour challenge

9) Start new kit

10) Ironing

11) Re-make the beds

So, let’s make a start, shall we?

Are you feeling a little playful?

It’s been a busy week, settling into a new routine. My car (Squinty) decided I needed a challenge and exercise, so she packed up on me again. Oh well! At least I did a lot of walking but now she is back at home squatting in her parking bay - plotting her next move.

Being stranded has its advantages of course. I had more time to design. I have two new kits out for you this week.

The first one, Mellow Yellow, was not planned. It was a result of me asking Bunny for a swatch. Guess what she gave me? Brown, yellow, black and white! I ask you! What kind of a colour combination is that? Well interestingly enough it seemed to work but it was a real stretch for me. Thank you Bunny for the challenge. It was fun.

Mental note to self: DO NOT ask Bunny for a swatch unless you are very bored!

Pay is via Paypal or personal check, no later then the 5th of every month. (Bunny has NEVER missed a payday. EVER.)
DSO IS a registered business in the state of KY, USA. Taxes and licensing for the site are paid as such.

New home and new collaboration at DSO

I am in, semi-unpacked and definitely settled. Talk about a serious de-clutter. As this house is so much smaller than my last home I had to give away tons of furniture and stuff to friends and family, and I took a car load full on Saturday to the local old age home for their charity shop.

For the last four years I have not had an oven and I cooked with a one plate stove. In the last four days I have baked cheese muffins, banana loaf, chocolate chip cookies, and a chocolate cake. I have roasted and casseroled until my kids are stuffed with food. I will not be going anywhere close to a scale in the near future. I am too scared!

Something else that is new is the DSO designers collaboration they have put together for you called Farmer’s Market. Filled with rustic treasures and goodies that you would find at such a market, it’s a real treasure kit at prices between $1.00 and $2.50.

Yesterday was a public holiday for us in South Africa. The kids and I spent the day indoors because it has rained non-stop for the last four days. I am destined for greatness

I got a copy of Joyce Meyer’s book called “Never give up!” which is really appropriate for my life right now. So last night I did a pamper session. Ran a hot bubble bath, cup of tea and climbed in to read. In the opening chapter she says this: "People destined for greatness face great challenges". So there’s my answer! ;)

I am still house hunting at the moment, which is starting to get a little nerve wrecking as the end of the month is FRIDAY. Nope, you did not just hear me squeal with panic. I could, of course invest in a few cardboard boxes and experience life on the streets. What a story that would be.

Just kidding! I have total faith that God will provide.

Well, I’m back!

Pardon the long absence but it has been an interesting week (in the Chinese sense). I woke up last Thursday morning to find my computer gone – along with whole lot of other stuff, including my clothes. The thieves broke into the house by cutting through a gate and a chain and then lifted the gate off.

The worst moment was when I realised that they had been in my daughter’s room and taken her computer and school bags which were right next to her bed. Everything material paled into insignificance as I realised what a lucky escape we had had. The kids and I had slept through the whole thing and I am so grateful for that!

I made a decision to move out that day. This was just the straw that broke the camel’s back after a long year of living on that farm. Did you know that you can pack up a house in a day – on your own? So now I am staying a friend’s townhouse which was fortunately empty until I find something more secure for the kids and me.

Thanks to Kim and Deon (big hugs to both of them) I am back online with a notebook that Deon brought to me.

Fortunately I had backed up most of my stuff and only lost the latest kits I was working on.

Yay! It’s Friday!!!!

Schools broke up today so the kids are on two weeks holiday and I am especially looking forward to it because it means that I do not have to the 6:00 am taxi run and back and forth all day. However with two teenagers –their social calendars are already full. Sigh!

But now it’s Friday and it’s “Design Date with Di” tonight. I am working on such a fun kit at the moment. Want to see?

It’s based on those mythical creatures that would lure …

You are invited to a Garden Party

When I was at varsity in Grahamstown, we would often have garden parties while we were in res. The idea was to dress up formally in hats and all your finery, and sip tea. We won’t mention that they degenerated into hooligan parties afterwards but we did try to be civilised, even if was only for a short time ;)

While I was looking through some of my old photos I found a few of taken at the garden parties.

I am the one in the middle with the long hair wearing a blue dress that I remember making myself.

In this one, I am the one in pink with a cup at her mouth. It’s fruit juice we are drinking. Really! Can’t you see the Fruitree box by my hand?

Those silver gloves I am wearing belonged to my grandmother. They came right up to my elbows and they were made of satin. I loved them.

Going through these old photos inspired this kit and I decided to use my favourite colours, orange and green.

So sit back, put on your best hat, grab a cup of Earl Gray and enjoy the party :)

Fine dresses and fancy hats are a prerequisite to enjoy a bountiful garden and tea. Created from a memory, this kit is ideal for scrapping those happy, fun filled days where time was of no consequence and the focus was fun. This is a girls only party, unless of course, the gents are wearing hats.

Today is a public holiday in South Africa so I figured I would quickly do a blog post and then take the rest of the day off. I tried to copy my blog post from Friday onto today’s and then I would delete everything except the pictures.

Just one problem – I overwrote Friday’s post. So not only did I have to redo Friday’s ( and I cannot remember everything I put on there) but I had to do Monday all over again too. Then I remembered that my blog feeds through to Facebook so I could copy and paste the original blog post back to Friday. Phew!!!!

So now starting over for today :)

Ever spent a week without running water?

It’s a nightmare. Every day requires careful planning about which friend’s house will be invaded for showering and filling bottles with water. Vital clothing that needs washing has to be taken with you and joins you in the shower. Dishes have to washed in a bucket of cold water and then rinsed in another bucket of water.

Loo breaks must all be taken consecutively so that one flush will suffice. Yuck!!!!!!!

I hereby do solemnly swear that I will never take running water for granted again and I will bless every drop that pours out when I open a tap :)

I love giving away freebies especially as I know that times are very tight financially for most people. These little freebies take us designers a long time to create for you and it takes you about 2 minutes to say thank you.

Every month, the same people say thank you. The number of people who take the time to leave a comment amounts to about 1% of the number of people who actually download the freebie.

I have power

So I spent most of the weekend without power. That in itself is ok. It’s an adventure when you have to rough it but when it’s financial year end for my clients and I cannot design ………. it gets a little frustrating.

Fortunately it came back on this morning and I am doing frantic catch up so let’s get started shall we?

A whole lot of lovin’ and some givin’

I got so spoilt by my kids yesterday. I was given chocolate (so good for you) and a teeny tiny coffee cup by my son, about the size of half a thumb with the words “I love you” written on. Too cute!!!

The DSO girls have all been very busy. I have LOTS to show you so grab a cup of tea and read on.
